    I would replace that cable , the plastic will probably crack after being heated up like that. And the leather on the seats look really loose , they should've tightend that up to be honest. Take your time with electrics Keith , don't do quick connections. Stay safe.

    Another load of goodies, I can’t help think about your poor bank account but we all know it’s worth every penny to make another classic mini look that good. It’ll all be so worth it. Blimey that ending wasn’t expected but so glad you noticed the flames before it got too bad. Hopefully the electrics are ok and the carpet isn’t damaged. Just goes to show that things like this can happen so quickly.

    Should your engine not have forged valve rockers instead of those standard pressed steel ones?

  • @edwardfothergill6156
    @edwardfothergill6156 3 дні тому

    The vacuum hose length most likely suits the split brake servo which, while higher than yours is also closer to the manifold. Put an NRV inline & that would lengthen the hose.

    Thanks for this video, very helpful. I am about to put in my jacking points as mine were completely rotten out. I put in repair sections for the inner sill around the seat tunnel area too. Locating the jacking point is what I came to your videos to see how to do that. Unlike you however, my step is still in place, so that is a battle I am working around, how to put in the jacking point with the step still there., as its harder to locate as you cant see in from the step side with the step there obviously. I am going to trip the top tab of the jacking point bracket too as I found its too long and actually hits the step and makes the bottom of the jacking point sit too low, which impacts the outer sill. I also have to replace the front and rear brackets that the outer sill goes on, so if you have videos showing that, please do direct me there. If you have a video showing installing the jacking point with the step still in place, I would love to see that too. Thanks again for your videos and expertise. Hi from NZ.

    Excellent progress Mark.. When I stopped restoring Mini's I sold off a load of spares like the carb elbows and two original twin carb filter boxes, plus half a dozen hydrolastic units, Original Mk lll heater, two reconditioned servos with brackets, callipers and disks etc, etc.. That servo hose does look a bit on the short side .. I can remember a number of times I wished I had an extra two inches. 😅..

Blimey I thought I had bad luck, I HATE new parts, I keep ordering them, and they’re wrong/different (size, quality, colour). At least we’re both nearly there. I’m never doing a nut and bolt restore again, I’ll just do restores where it’s nice, but not like new. Stay strong, nearly there 👍 (can that vacuum pipe go above the brake line?)

      I bought it with the intention of using it whilst I did up another mini, it had 12 months mot, a newish front end and a relatively new paint job. It turned out to be a nightmare. Every time I went out in it, it broke down. Whoever owned it before me was an…. Let’s just say they should not have been working on cars. Cross thread bolts everywhere, plus the sump plug stripped and the oil sender snapped in the block. Melted inline fuses bypassed. But the worse thing was it was rotten as a peach, but covered in filler and shiny paint. I know mini’s but it was very well hidden - I assume they could fill and paint but not weld. Well, 2017 new inner and outer sills, steps, heel board, boot floor, closing panels, rear valance, boot and door hinge panels, repair to the roof…. It goes on… scuttle, half the bulkhead as it must have been leaking brake fluid for years, I’m sure I’ve missed loads. Plus I put on another front as they’d cut the front arches (hidden by arches) to fit bigger wheels, and I can only guess they’d used a can opener to do it. It took a year to weld up (with life etc), it got put on the back burn for 18 months (other projects and cars, including another mini to use whilst f-ing about with the two), then I got in a queue to get it painted at a body shop, then covid,. Finally got it back from the paint shop end of 2021 (4 years in). They’d done a great job of the outside, but had only painted the box section and bins on the inside, telling me the rest was not included in the price and would not be seen because of the carpets. I wasn’t happy, but couldn’t prove anything so I had to wait for good weather to sort it myself, rest of 2022 was spent doing the garden, patio etc (cheaper than a divorce 😂). 2023 was the engine rebuild plus inner and outer sills on the second replacement mini. 2024 has been spent buying things fitting them dealing with problems and refitting them - e.g. I can’t fit the rear seats until I fitted the parcel shelf, which wants refurbing. Which I can’t fit until I fitted the speaker, which I threw away because they were knackered but turn out to be hard to replace (for genuine) and the set I bought off ebay arrived damaged as did the dash pad… You get the idea. Basically it should look like a new mini when I’m finished, which is a right pain and wasn’t my original intention. But after the paint job and the fully refurbished rear subframe I thought I aught to do the front…and the brake and fuel lines…and the master cylinders and and and, it’s never ending. Whereas strip some bits off, inner and outer sill and back together in a long weekend is much more rewarding in my opinion.

My mum bought a Racing Green in 1989 and I remember seeing them at the Rover dealers. Everyone used to stop us to ask about it. It was such an exciting time for the mini, the big comeback, people don't realise the impact it had then (including the conversion kit). People that knew them from the 60s were still around to talk about them, the white roof was back!

      @@classicminiworkshop thanks! That seems to be what John cooper garages used, especially before the Rover minilight was made. They fit the arches better than the rover ones.

    Looks fantastic. May I suggest a longer hose for the pressure washer which saves you having to move the machine. Also a high speed blower to chase out water from nooks and crannies. When is the engine coming back?

    I always put lock tite on rivnuts to prevent them spinning around in the future when the stainless screws have corroded the aluminium , that's a right pita. 😏

    Looking really good now! Waiting for the racing green decals to go on. Any self tapping screws on my mini I replace with rivnuts now, even did the sun visors 😂

      I think they were 6mm diameter, not sure what thread size, maybe M3?

    Top tip * i always spray rivnuts with cavity wax to guard against the dreaded rust. Also i spray the back of the grill with wax. Nice job looks great 👍

    Just out of curiosity, will you rivnut the bonnet trim? You find the bonnets tend to rust around that area with the screws. I'm not sure if there's enough space for rivnuts though? Looks really nice with the rivnuts in. I've tried my grille on & it fits awful, hope I can get it fitting as good as yours 👍. Looks spot on the front 👌.

    does the Racing Green have a strike plate for the bonnet safety catch hook? I like the way on my Japanese SPI mini there is a little plate that sits on the lip, so the hook hits that rather than the body. I guess PIIIOW would have it too?
